University Park LifestyleUniversity Park being one of the first "villages" completed by the Irvine Company in the late 1960's has a lot to offer it's residents. Irvine's University Park residents enjoy one of the highest ratios of green open space to homes in all of Irvine. Preserving open space and creating a community linked internally by landscaped walking trails and parks was important to designers of University Park, as can be evidenced by a quick walk down one of pedestrian walkways.Irvine's University Park village is very family oriented with numerous parks, open areas, tot lots, large club house and swimming pool, and plenty of various sport areas. Somewhat different than other neighborhoods is the internal nature of the community oriented open spaces found in University Park. The majority of the open spaces and pedestrian pathways are actually "hidden" in the common area between the homes and University Park's neighborhoods - not adjacent to the streets like in many other areas. This gives University Park a more "intimate" feel and is also more kid friendly. Irvine regional park William R. Mason is also directly adjacent to the village of University Park, just south of University Drive. Mason Park, the fourth park to open under Orange County's master plan of regional parks. The park has 345 acres featuring; open spaces, rolling grassy areas, lake, and other natural areas. There are numerous trees in the park to add to it's beauty and offer shade. Also on the park are hiking and walking areas, tot lots, and a exciting physical fitness course.
